Prabowo: Indonesia’s Priority – Realism and Unity

President Prabowo Subianto emphasized the crucial importance of national unity in the midst of increasing global instability. In a Plenary Cabinet Meeting at the State Palace, he highlighted the complexities of the geopolitical landscape since the start of his administration on October 20, 2024. He noted the escalating conflicts in various regions, such as Ukraine, Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, Syria, Israel, Iran, India, Pakistan, Myanmar, Cambodia, and Thailand, which have resulted in significant civilian casualties. Prabowo also mentioned the uncertainties in the global economy, especially due to new tariff policies from the United States.

Despite these challenges, President Prabowo expressed confidence in Indonesia’s ability to face them, thanks to the strength and coherence of the government’s economic team. He appreciated the collaborative efforts of the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Ministers of Finance, Industry, and Trade, Chair of the National Economic Council, Minister of Investment, and Minister of Foreign Affairs in tackling the issues at hand. Prabowo highlighted Indonesia’s approach of calm, pragmatism, and focus on negotiation as vital in safeguarding national interests amidst the turbulence in the global arena.

The president emphasized the importance of protecting Indonesian workers and their families, stating that the government’s duty is to secure the best possible outcomes considering the current conditions. Prabowo concluded by underlining the significance of not acting emotionally and maintaining a united front in the face of global challenges. This united effort, he believes, is crucial for Indonesia to navigate through the complexities of the current geopolitical landscape and economic uncertainties.
