Recruiting Low-Income Communities for MBG Nutrition Program Kitchens

National Nutrition Agency (BGN) is taking a new approach to recruit workers for the Nutritional Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG) by targeting individuals in extreme and general poverty. This initiative is part of a larger effort to boost local employment opportunities. Redy Hendra Gunawan, Special Staff to the National Nutrition Agency, shared that at least 30% of the personnel in each SPPG will be selected from underprivileged households.

The President’s directive emphasized the importance of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) Program in contributing to job creation. By involving individuals from the lowest economic deciles, BGN aims to enhance job absorption for families in need. Currently, there are 2,378 SPPG units established in collaboration with 6,076 local economic institutions, such as cooperatives, village-owned enterprises, and MSMEs.

A total of 93,572 local community members are actively volunteering in the SPPG program, supporting the distribution of free nutritious meals. The MBG Program has already benefitted 7,444,238 individuals nationwide, including students from various educational levels, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, toddlers, and more. To further expand the program’s reach, BGN plans to launch an additional 2,401 SPPG units in the next 10 days, aiming to serve approximately 15 million beneficiaries across the country.
